Master of Arts in Education with specialization in Adult Education and Distance learning

The need for Distance Learning and Adult Education

Distance education technologies are expanding at an extremely rapid rate. Too often, educators have become captivated by the latest technologies without dealing with the underlying issues of learner characteristics and needs, the influence of media upon the instructional process, equity of access to interactive delivery systems, and the new roles of teacher, site facilitator, and student in the distance learning process.

It seems that Distance Learning is gaining rapid acceptance these days; everyone from retired males and females, moms and dads to students right out of high school are choosing Distance Learning as their best route to a successful career.

The research firm, International Data Corp, estimates that the E-learning market in the United States will grow from $2.3 billion last year to $14.7 billion by 2004. Worldwide, the overall E-learning market is expected to hit $23 billion by 2004.

It has become very important for educators to develop skills required for effective administration and teaching of distance learning courses. Distance Learning is a trend you cannot afford to miss.

Usefulness of the Adult Education and Distance Learning program

The Master of Arts degree in Education (MAED) with specialization in Adult Education and Distance Learning is designed for experienced educators who are interested in enhancing their professional practice through online study of advanced professional knowledge related to teaching and learning. The MAED degree program involves a variety of learning formats, depending upon the subject matter and competencies to be developed.

The program focuses on learning and communication theories, with particular reference to adult learning, and its use in the planning and design of distance education curricula and courses.

The program encompasses the study of adult learning theories, instructional design, multiple distance education modalities, assessment and evaluation, as well as tools, techniques and strategies associated with distance education with a focus on self-directed learning.

Faculty and other educators are often limited by commitments, pressures and demands of their work and family life. The MAED degree course itself being a distance learning program allows you to work at your own pace without any requirements of on-campus classroom attendance.
